A New Trans Support Group for Notts

Last September, a group of local trans people sat down with members of Notts LGBT+ Network (formerly Nottingham & Nottinghamshire LG Switchboard) to talk about support for trans people in Nottinghamshire.

They unanimously agreed that although there are already sources of support for the community, like the Trans4me youth group, the Chameleons group, Invasion nights out, Notts Trans Hub and services like the Health Shop, there was still something missing.

The answer? A facilitated group that would be accessible to a broad range of people under the “trans umbrella” – trans women, trans men, and non-binary people, and people who are questioning their gender.

A steering group was set up, with the remit “To run an inclusive, volunteer facilitated monthly support group for the full diversity of Nottinghamshire’s Trans community”. It would be a joint venture between Notts LGBT+ Network and Notts Trans Hub . Since then, a lot of work has happened – planning, training of facilitators, funding applications, and a large community survey to help us be guided by what local trans people want and need.

And now, at last, we are ready.

The group launches on Monday, 4th July, from 7-9pm.

We welcome all under the trans umbrella. Their supporters can also attend for part of the meeting, with space to meet separately for the rest of the time for mutual support.

People who attend will find a welcoming, structured space, but will also have a chance to help shape the group going forward, and make it a truly inclusive space for all our community. We are also looking for a better name and artwork and will ask people to bring their ideas!

We very much look forward to seeing you there. Please contact us for venue details.
